According to the latest figures released by the US Labor Department the number of jobs that have been lost in August has totalled 54,000 which means that this is the third month in a row that there has been a fall in job numbers.
There had been 67,000 jobs created in the private sector which had been a better result than analysts had predicted however overall the job totals revealed in the figures showed that unemployment that was standing at 9.5% in July had now risen to 9.6%.
Speaking on the jobs situation President Barack Obama said that during the next week he would be making an announcement about proposals that had been designed to boost the economy’s growth by creating jobs and described the figures as “positive, but not nearly good enough”.
A reduction in government employment was highlighted as one main reason for the loss of jobs during the month of August.
During August work had finished on compiling the US census which meant that 114,000 temporary workers had now lost their employment which was a large factor in the total 121,000 total lost government jobs.
