On Monday Damian Green who is the immigartion Minister is to make a speech in which he will ask the question as to whether Britain is really attracting the best and brightest students as only half of the visas requested are for university courses and he is expected to say that the rate at which the UK is letting foreign students into the country is “unsustainable”.

Research carried out by the Home Office studied the year of 2004 and tracked all non-EU migrants who had come into the UK and revealed that 185,000 coming to the country were students of which 21% were still living here five years on.

It is also expected that work visas will be examined by Ministers as five years after entering the country 40% of the people given these remain here.

During the year of 2009 196,000 people migated into the UK, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics, showing an increase of 33,000 on the previous year.
