According to the latest weather statistics just released the UK has experienced the coldest month of August for 17 years and with average temperatures being the chilliest since 1993 was notable as there was not one “hot day”.
Edgbaston in Birmingham went down on records as reporting the coldest temperature in the month of August for 23 years when thermometers fell to 12.8C.
Speaking about the figures Philip Eden who is a weather consultant said that this August had seen the lowest temperatures since 1993 however this was not so much that this was exceptional but rather than that reflected on the warmth of previous August months.
With the summer breaks just ending in the UK the periods of heavy rain seen across much of the country and substantial lack of any sunny days meant a disappointing end to the holiday period.
Although at previous times there had been concern about low water levels in the reservoirs the end of August saw heavy rainfall across a lot of the UK and the data for England and Wales showed a reading of 106.2mm which is one and a half times the normal amount expected to fall during this period of time.
